The leaves have medicinal properties Achiote: acting against throat ailments, respiratory disorders, kidney pains, skin inflammations, fever, hypertension and conjunctivitis. What's more, its seeds have stimulant and digestive properties, and its root in decoction acts against malaria and asthma.

Uña de Gato is anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic and antiarthritic. Furthermore, antimutagenic, it inhibits the development of cancer and AIDS, by strengthening the human immune system.

The ungurahui acts against respiratory diseases, asthma, pulmonary tuberculosis, diarrhea and gastritis.
It is also an effective laxative, malaria and is used against hair loss.

The Huasaí has many medicinal properties: it acts against fever, malaria, jaundice, diabetes, bleeding, muscle aches, liver and kidney ailments.
