Ayahuasca sessions in the jungle are usually carried out in a group setting of 5 to 10 people, which is the most recommended, as well as sessions with up to twenty people or more.
Sessions are usually held at night, although sessions may occasionally take place during the day.
An ayahuasca session can last approximately 4 to 5 hours. Since it is an introspective experience, participants need to stay after the session until the effects of the medicine have worn off.
The session is always led by a shaman or spiritual guide who has first experienced extensively with it and knows how to lead sessions well.
At the beginning of the session, time can be given to share the purposes of each one in relation to the session, what they have decided to participate for, and once the circle of intentions has concluded, the ayahuasca is served and the shots begin.
The ayahuasca experience can have many stages. Sometimes, the exploration of the internal worlds is accompanied by emotional pain, or some kind of suffering or release of tension, so it is not uncommon that, in ayahuasca sessions, especially those more oriented to healing, there are cries and even screams in the enclosure throughout the night.
Similarly, the purgative effects of ayahuasca cause vomiting or diarrhea to occur, but all these effects are part of the healing process of each participant.
Another important factor that you must take into account is that during the sessions the shaman will use his music or icaros (ancestral healing songs) that will take the participants to a state of deep meditation.
It should be noted that there are two types of sessions: the traditional/shamanic one and the therapeutic one, although the two types of work are very interconnected: a shamanic session can have therapeutic effects, just as mystical-religious experiences can occur in a therapeutic session.
The effects of ayahuasca are usually purgative and visionary since, when vomiting, diarrhea, sweating among other side effects occur, it is part of the integral healing of the human being.
The cause of the psychedelic effects of drinking Ayahuasca focuses on Dimethyltryptamine or DMT, which is closely related to the chemical structure of hormones, or neurotransmitters, that are naturally secreted by the brain.
n other words, when a person falls asleep, their brain begins to secrete a chemical substance, equivalent to the DMT in Ayahuasca, which precisely allows the person to dream.
The effect of Ayahuasca, then, is approximately like experiencing a dream, but while we are awake.
Feeling the effects of Ayahuasca is like dreaming, but with full awareness of the content of the images and the emotional contents that color the dream.
During ayahuasca sessions, a profound action occurs in the body, mind, emotions and spirit, allowing us to confront and conquer our deepest fears, revitalize vital energies and awaken to a higher level of consciousness in order to open ourselves towards our ” inner teacher.
Likewise, during the Ayahuasca session, a relationship with spirituality is opened. In reality, it is a process of personal and spiritual self-discovery that will continue for the rest of our lives.
The session is attended with a calm purpose and without expectations, open to discovering what the plant wants to show, teach and heal at that moment.
Each person will have an experience with ayahuasca, different from all the others, each one has to live a personalized experience by a superior energy or by the subconscious itself, your experience will develop and manifest according to what you really need to work on at that moment.
The main challenge for each person is to understand the real meaning of the visions that the Ayahuasca plant shows and to use that learning in their daily lives.
The session usually ends with an Icarus that helps close the healing circle. The shaman provides patients with protection against any kind of spiritual vulnerability before leaving.
Once the ayahuasca session is over, the lights are turned on and a short talk is given. The shaman is free to add a few words for each of the participants or a general chat. Then the lights are turned on and people can go to rest.
The sessions can last until dawn, due to the duration of the effects of Ayahuasca. It is one of the strongest and most powerful healing experiences offered by the jungle of Peru.
If you are looking for something that will change your perspective forever, this is a good opportunity.
A true therapeutic work with ayahuasca begins with a good preparation, with the aim of reducing potential risks and maximizing benefits.
To conduct an ayahuasca session, it’s essential to follow an ayahuasca diet starting three days prior. This preparation involves adhering to a specific dietary regimen and observing certain restrictions, often outlined by the shaman.:
Participating in Ayahuasca sessions facilitates the connection with the deep intelligence of your body, with the self-regulation capacity of your own body, and can offer you a deep detoxification experience for body, mind and spirit.
An ayahuasca session experience can help you see your life more clearly, help you overcome existential conflicts and heal past traumas.
In addition, the experience of these sessions, together with an adequate process of interpretation and integration of the experience, can help you live life more fully and see your path of self-realization more clearly.
